Radek Ostrowski is an independent software engineer with an academic background in high-performance computing. He specialises in building scalable real-time data collection and predictive analytics platforms. He has worked at EPCC, University of Edinburgh in data-related projects, contributed to the success of a game's startup - DeltaDNA, co-built super-scalable backend for PlayStation 4 at Sony and started Docker revolution at Tesco Bank. He is currently working with Spark, Scala and Docker for US-based startups and improving his award winning MyPerfectWeather.eu service.

This presentation tells a story of a hackathon where mixing a cool idea with the latest technologies resulted in the grand prize and the fan favourite award of the IBM Sparkathon with nearly 600 participants. It will also include a demo on applying the key technologies and how they were effectively combined in the context of the Bluemix platform.
